The Grand Hotel Duchi d’Aosta is a 5-star hotel with 42 keys, located in Trieste, in Piazza Unità d’Italia. It is also equipped with the 2 Michelin-star restaurant Harry’s Piccolo. Recently it became part of the international Relais & Châteaux network, being the first 5-star hotel of the network in the region. In Italy, Relais & Châteaux includes 39 boutique hotels and 11 restaurants. As for villas, a phenomenon that literally exploded following the pandemic, in Italy there are 14 villas out of 600 in the world that are part of the Villas by Relais & Châteaux portfolio.
The Italian luxury segment represents an important component of the network’s portfolio, which has 36 5-star hotels, for a total of approximately 1,400 keys, and distributed in 14 Italian regions. Relais & Châteaux is the third international network in Italy for the number of affiliated 5-star hotels, after The Leading Hotels of the World (68) and Small Luxury Hotels of the World (47).
According to the THRENDS Luxury Hotels Database, the 5-star hotels currently affiliated with Relais & Châteaux are mostly independent hotels (95%). In the years 2013-2019, the hotels affiliated to the network recorded a CAGR growth in revenues/key equal to 7.9%, while in 2020, they saw a decline in this parameter equal to -70% YoY. TRevPAR also grew at a rapid pace, going from 356€ in 2013 to 583€ in 2019. EBITDA Margin, on the other hand, suffered from a relatively volatile trend over the years, so much so that in 2019 it had dropped to 14% (vs. 13% in 2013) of the overall average turnover of the hotels in the network in Italy. Overall, again in the years 2013-2019, the parameter grew by + 1.2%.
