The European Union has introduced a new Schengen visa policy that makes it easier for Indian tourists to travel to Italy and other European destinations. This updated policy offers more flexible and longer-term multiple-entry visas to Indian citizens. For Indian travelers residing in India who have used a Schengen visa for short stays twice in the past three years, it is now possible to apply for a multiple-entry visa valid for two years.
This Schengen visa allows stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period in 29 European countries. The multiple-entry option further enables travelers to access the Schengen area for a total of 180 days per year without needing to reapply for each entry, which simplifies travel planning significantly.
The new policy benefits frequent travelers and those looking to explore Italy and other European countries more extensively. Following the two-year visa, travelers can qualify for a five-year multiple-entry visa if their passports have sufficient validity. This avoids the need to frequently renew their visa applications.
In line with these changes, THRENDS is developing a detailed report on the potential of the Indian market for Italian tourism. This report will be presented at the ITHIC Rome 2024 event on October 17 and 18. The new visa regulations are expected to boost tourism from India to Italy, offering more seamless travel experiences and encouraging more visitors to explore the cultural and historical riches of Italy.
