Hyatt is strengthening its presence in Rome with the opening of its first Thompson hotel in Italy and the upcoming launch of its first Hyatt Regency property. These two openings mark an important step in the group’s expansion across the Italian hospitality market. In fact, Hyatt has grown from two hotels in Italy in 2019 to eight properties in 2026. Its portfolio now includes 864 rooms, with two further openings planned by 2029.
The Thompson Rome has opened in Via delle Botteghe Oscure, inside the former headquarters of the Italian Communist Party. The hotel features 69 rooms and suites, a restaurant and a rooftop terrace. Ag Group and Rossifin Group operate the property through a joint venture. They also managed the renovation works after securing a lease agreement with property owner Finanziaria Tosinvest in 2024. In addition, the joint venture signed a franchise agreement with Hyatt. Ag Group already operates another Hyatt-affiliated hotel in Rome, the Tribune Joie de Vivre.
Meanwhile, the Hyatt Regency Rome Central will welcome its first guests in the second half of November. The property occupies the former Radisson Es in the Esquilino district, close to Termini station. It will offer 238 rooms, a pool bar and Niroma, an Asian-inspired restaurant. Furthermore, the hotel will feature a rooftop terrace of approximately 2,000 square metres. The space will include a swimming pool and panoramic views across the city. It is set to become one of Rome’s largest rooftop venues.
Garnet Hospitality Partners will operate the Hyatt Regency and also handled project management. Investire SGR acts as asset manager through a fund entirely subscribed by London-based investment firm Blantyre Capital.
Overall, Hyatt’s Italian portfolio has more than tripled in room capacity since 2019. The two new Rome hotels will further strengthen the group’s presence in the capital. Moreover, the planned openings through 2029 point to continued growth in Italy.
