Accor, development plan 2022

Accor is planning to open more than 300 hotels in 2022.

The focus is on the luxury and premium segments, which currently account for almost 40% of Accor’s new openings, including Raffles Hotels in London and Doha, and the Skipper Sofitel Barcelona.

The midscale and economy segments will also be important for the group’s expansion. In 2021, Accor opened 288 hotels, 153 of them in Europe. Of these, 6 hotels are in Italy (for 852 keys), including 25hours in Florence, The Hoxton and MaMa Shelter, both properties are located in Rome.

Accor’s international development in the luxury segment is confirmed also in Italy. By 2022, the Italian pipelines will be, for 43% of the structures, of the 5-star category, with the brands Mgallery By Sofitel, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts that will represent the luxury openings planned by the group in Italy. The prevailing category is, however, the upscale segment with the opening of 4 hotels of the Mgallery, Novotel and Mercure brands.

Considering the current Italian portfolio, the upscale (71% of hotels) and the midscale (24% of hotels) segments are the focus of Accor. Luxury, on the other hand, represents only 5% of the group’s overall Italian portfolio.

The group’s portfolio, particularly stable and consolidated over the years, will experience a development in the coming years. The midscale segment will tend to shrink in favour of higher positioning properties: upscale and luxury.

In the upscale segment, Mercure, together with Novotel, are the most popular brands, representing up to 56.5% of the group’s total room portfolio in Italy. As for the midscale, Ibis New and Ibis Style, are the most prominent brands with 27.3% of the rooms.
