Planetaria Hotels plans to expand in Venice and enter the mountain hospitality market. The Italian group aims to add a luxury property in the lagoon and take over a hotel in a mountain destination around two hours from Milan. CEO Sofia Gioia Vedani outlined the plans during a recent meeting with industry media in Milan.
In Venice, the group plans to transform a fifteenth-century palace overlooking the Grand Canal into a luxury hotel. The project will complement Ca’ Pisani, a four-star property that Planetaria acquired in 2024 for around €20 million, including minor refurbishment works.
The new development reportedly concerns Palazzo Molin Erizzo in the Cannaregio district. In 2024, Planetaria’s subsidiary Altana secured a reported 25-year concession for the historic building. Initial plans envisaged a five-star hotel with 25 rooms, a spa, a restaurant and a bar. However, the group has not yet released further details about the project.
Meanwhile, Planetaria is preparing to enter the mountain market. The group has not disclosed the destination, but Vedani confirmed that the parties have signed the contract. Only a few formal steps remain before they complete the acquisition. Planetaria expects to take over the hotel’s management from the next winter season.
The announcements follow a first nine months broadly in line with the group’s budget, Vedani explained. Some destinations also recorded growth despite the challenging geopolitical environment.
Planetaria currently operates 12 four- and five-star properties across Italy. Its portfolio includes five hotels in Milan, two each in Genoa and Rome, and one each in Trezzo sull’Adda, Venice and Florence. The group directly owns most of its properties, while it leases Indigo Milano Corso Monforte. Planetaria also manages Grand Hotel Savoia in Genoa, which belongs to Hilton’s Curio Collection, under a white-label arrangement.
Looking ahead, Planetaria intends to focus its expansion strategy exclusively on Italy. Nevertheless, Vedani remains open to bringing in a financial partner to support the group’s future growth.
