Hyatt has recently announced its expansion plans: the pipeline includes the opening of 75 hotel properties in the EMEA region, adding to the existing 206, for a current total of approximately 46,200 keys. The development strategy is also focused on Europe, targeting countries such as Spain, France, and Italy.
Embracing an asset-light strategy more and more, the company boasts a global portfolio with 1,300 hotels in 77 countries. Of these, 15 are slated for opening by 2024. In Italy, according to Felicity Black-Roberts, Vice President of Development & Acquisitions for Europe, the group is currently negotiating two deals in Rome, while planning openings in other Italian cities like Florence. In Rome, we also witnessed the Italian debut of the Thompson brand, marking its second European launch following Thompson Madrid. In addition, Thompson Vienna is set to open in 2025.
The 5-star lifestyle hotel with 70 rooms will be located in the former PCI headquarters on Via delle Botteghe Oscure in Rome, with its opening scheduled for the first half of 2024. Tosinvest Finance, owner of the former PCI headquarters on Via delle Botteghe Oscure in Rome, announced the restoration and conversion of the building into a 70-key, 5-star hotel, covering approximately 8,000 square meters. Botteghe Oscure S.r.l., the company leasing the property, is a joint venture between the hotel group AG Group and Rossfin Group, also tasked with all refurbishment works.
The future operator of Thompson Rome, AG Group, through Botteghe Oscure S.r.l., has entered into a franchise agreement with Hyatt.
