The luxury hotel brand of the IHG group is planning 65 hotel openings, covering 15,181 rooms and suites. China is the destination with the highest number of new InterContinental hotel projects, with the United States ranking second in number of brand openings in the coming years. In particular, of these 65 pipeline projects, 23 are expected to open in 2022, 19 are expected to open in 2023, five are expected to debut in 2024 and the remaining 18 are expected to open in 2025 and beyond. China will see the bulk of the business with 16 projects and 3,701 rooms on the way. The United States is the second largest country with six projects comprising 1,654 rooms, followed by Thailand with five upcoming hotels comprising 932 rooms. Overall, Asia Pacific has the largest number of InterContinental developments, with 39 hotels for a total of 9,003 rooms. North America, on the other hand, sees nine projects in the pipeline, Europe eight projects and the Middle East five projects. The brand is also opening three hotels in Africa and one hotel in South America. Some of the brand’s most notable projects are the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, InterContinental Halong Bay Resort (175 keys) and InterContinental The Red Sea (210 keys). In Rome, the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace will be inaugurated in the second quarter of 2022, with the rebranding of the historic Hotel Ambasciatori in Via Veneto. The rebranded hotel will have 160 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a bar and a wellness center. The hotel has historically recorded performance below the category average in Rome. In Via Veneto, there are several projects in the pipeline that will affect the cluster. For example, the conversion of the former BNL headquarters into Rosewood, the rebranding under Nobu (the first in Italy of the brand) of the Grand Hotel Via Veneto.
