CEO & Founder – Camplus
Maurizio Carvelli, married, three children, graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in Business Administration. He lives in Bologna. His professional experience began in 1980, at the age of twenty, as the founder of the Nuovo Mondo Cooperative as an off-site university student, in an attempt to solve the housing problem. He is currently its president.
The cooperative built the first student house in Italy built by students and former students in the cooperative form. From 1984 to 1990, at the same time as the entrepreneurial start-up, he held managerial jobs in Federindustria Emilia-Romagna, in A.P.I. Servizi, a service company of the Small and Medium Enterprise Association of the province of Bologna. In 1991, he co-founded the CEUR Foundation, of which he assumed the position of Managing Director, which builds and manages Colleges of Merit – University Colleges recognized and accredited by the M.U.R. Currently operating with 11 colleges in 7 Italian cities (Catania, Palermo, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Milan and Turin) for a total of 1,500 students. In 1996 it launched Italy’s first center for university orientation to the world of work: the Careers Service, created with the University of Bologna and connected with more than 500 companies. Among the founders of the Conference of University Colleges of Merit, in 1997 he became Secretary General. The Conference brings together all the Foundations accredited by the MUR and that make up the network of Italian colleges of excellence; he currently holds no office.
In 2004 he opened a relationship center for Italian companies and universities in Shanghai and was the promoter, representing Fondazione CEUR, of the first China College in Bologna. In 2007 he launched the Camplus brand, a brand that encompasses merit colleges, residences and apartments and that over the years has grown to 17 Italian cities (Catania, Palermo, Rome, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Milan, Padua, Pavia, Venice, Cesena Ferrara, Parma, Aquila, Verona, Turin, Modena and Udine) and 2 foreign ones (Pamplona and Seville). Today Camplus is the leading Italian provider in the student housing sector, currently managing more than 10,000 beds for university students and guesthouses.
In November 2023 Carvelli, together with leading private operators in the student housing market Campus x and Dovevivo founded the association REUNI- Italian University Residences- of which he is President.
