Biography

Federico Sutti is Chairman of the Europe Board and Managing Partner of Dentons in Italy.
Mr. Sutti has gained extensive experience in the M&A sector and in particular in the real estate sector, assisting Italian and foreign operators in the acquisition of real estate assets and in the development of complex projects. These include some of the most important development initiatives both in the residential/management sector (Aree Falck) and in the logistics sector (Piacenza), as well as numerous brownfield transactions on behalf of foreign investors also in the hotel and/or management sector. In addition, he has assisted banks in some of the largest development transactions in Italy, including Citylife and Varesine.
Mr. Sutti also works in the PFI/PPP sectors, having been among the first in Italy to implement project finance techniques in the Italian and international infrastructure market, with a specific focus on the healthcare sector. In particular, he has long assisted the Veneto Region as well as the Turkish Minister of Infrastructure in connection with the development of a PFI model for hospitals.
In recent years, as a result of the crisis, he has assisted numerous Italian companies, multinationals, financial institutions and funds, including real estate operators, in various restructuring and refinancing transactions. Among the main ones was the restructuring of the debt exposure of the Mezzaroma Group and the Parnasi Group companies.

Management experience

Mr. Sutti took over responsibility for the Milan office of Schürmann & Partner in 1997, becoming Managing Partner for Italy and leading the firm to become the leading law firm in the Italian/German market as early as 1999. In January 2000, he worked on the Italian side of the merger between Schürmann & Partner and the US firm Coudert Brothers.
In 2003, he led the integration of the Milan office of Coudert Brothers, with 32 professionals and 12 staff members, with the English-based law firm DLA. In 2004, as DLA, he opened the Rome office.
In 2008, he took over as DLA Piper’s head of development in Eastern Europe (including Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania) and was responsible for opening and coordinating the office in Turkey.
After more than 16 years at the helm of DLA Piper Italia, which had in the meantime become the largest international law firm in Italy with 170 professionals and 70 staff members, in 2013-2014 he was Managing Director Europe and Africa of the above-mentioned firm with responsibility for more than 1,400 professionals and 1,500 staff members and head of institutional relations for the Italian offices until September 2015.
He was a member of the Global Board of DLA Piper (2005-2010), and a member of the Board of DLA Piper International LLP (2003- 2006).
